Choices

“Life is a matter of choices, and every choice you make makes you.” —John C. Maxwell

Before-note : I am not dealing with small choices, like, what to wear or what to eat, here. I am talking about those massive, threatening life-changing choices. Hope you get the picture.

You are constantly being presented with choices, and to be in the game of life, you have to choose. You have to choose wise!

Choices never come free of cost. They come bundled up with regret.

[For those whose are not well-versed with the term regret, let me take you through. Imagine you are playing the "Kaun Banega Crorepati" with Amitabh or Surya or whoever and you are just one question away from winning one crore rupees.

The last question pops up on the screen before you. You have used up all your lifelines but still want to crack your way through. Taking your own sweet time and squeezing your brain muscles, you come up with an answer. With the music being played, the Computer ji reveals your answer to be incorrect.

You become so upset, surrounded by disappointment, and keep thinking why you chose that option. All through your life thereafter, you would be kicking yourself, saying, "Shit! I should have gone with that other option."

That my friend, is regret.]

Every time you make a decision or a choice, you need to live with the regret of not choosing the choices, that had not been chosen.(Please, don't throw up right here. I didn't mean to play with the word)

Regrets are inevitable.

But, you could hack your way to reduce its impact. Next time, you are stuck in a decision-making situation, try this.

Think what would happen if it goes your way, and what if it turns the other way. Which makes you regret less, go for it.

Maybe an example would be helpful.

Ever been in love? Ever wanted to say what it feels like, when you see someone of the opposite gender? You have two choices.

Expose your feelings to him/her and regret why you acted so foolish.

Or,

You could bury your feelings, act as nothing happened. Walk away from his/her life and regret why you never had the guts to express your feelings. Only if you had...only if you had said those words.. and it had gone the right way.. you could have been living happily with your loved one and..

Sorry, I got a bit carried away there.

Yes, getting back, every time, life offers you with options, don't immediately pounce onto one. Take your own sweet time to make your choice(as if you are only one question away from winning a crore).

“Life is about choices. Some we regret, some we’re proud of. Some will haunt us forever. The message: we are what we chose to be.” —Graham Brown

You could never choose to have a regret-free life. But you always could opt for a regret-less life!

After-note : Hope you have made it to the end in one piece. If I had let you wander off somewhere in the way, yeah, I'm sorry, my writing is not yet up to the mark. Just let me know where I lost you, so I could improvise. Thanks.!
